• Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)

  • CASA of the Coastal Bend
    Job Description
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is seeking volunteers to advocate for the needs of Coastal Bend children in foster care. Last year 141 volunteers served 323 children in foster care. Sadly another 743 children were waiting for a CASA to be their voice in court and help them build their futures. We are a volunteer driven organization with a goal of providing a strong voice and helping heart to every child in foster care across Aransas, Nueces and San Patricio coutnies.

CASAs are everyday people – teachers, business people, retirees, stay-at-home moms and grandparents – who are committed to making a difference for children who might otherwise slip through the cracks of an overburdened foster care system.  Advocates research case records and interview each person involved in a child’s life, including family members, teachers, doctors, lawyers and social workers. They monitor the progress of the child and family and advocate for the child’s current and future needs in court, in school and in agency meetings. CASA’s independent evaluations allow the court to make better informed decisions. Because advocates serve on 1-2 cases at a time, they truly get to know an individual child or sibling group. They provide sustained, personal attention to every child – just as every child deserves.

No experience or education is required. We provide a free,  in-depth training for those interested in becoming a CASA volunteer. Must be a minimum of 21 years old.

Learn how a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) helps children in foster care build their future while being their voice to advocate for their best interests and help find them their forever home.

Attend a brief, non-committal 45 minute information session held every Wednesday at noon at our office located at 2602 Prescott to hear about the roles and requirements of a CASA volunteer. These sessions explain the role of an advocate and the next steps in the application process.
