    Job Description

    Other duties will include but are not limited to:

    • Oversee all training activities in the bird area.

    • Oversee the quarantine of all birds.

    • Assist the veterinarian in all areas of bird health.

    • Assist in the development and implementation of the bird collection plan.

    • Responsible for assuring that all animal handling practices are in accordance to husbandry guidelines.

    • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures in bird work areas.

    • Develop and design exhibits and support areas.

    • Participate in the development and design of exhibits and systems as assigned.

    • Participate in the Aquarium’s Research Committee.

    • Participate in personnel duties including hiring, development, training, and performance evaluations.

    • Enforce compliance with policies and procedures.

    • Enter data into TRACKS.

    • Oversee the purchasing and inventory of husbandry supplies, equipment, and food.

    • Participate in the development and implementation of the department’s annual budget and goals.

      A Bachelor’s degree in biology, psychology, or a related field from a four-year college or university is required. A minimum of five years of professional experience working with birds and two years of experience as a supervisor in an aquarium/zoological institution is also required. Any equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered.
