Port Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) is currently seeking a dynamic professional to join our team! This position is under the direct supervision of the Sr. Logistics Manager to conduct maintenance and repair of the marine assets, including but not limited to, conducting all maintenance/ repairs involved with the operation of the main propulsion engines, auxiliary engines, fire pumps, fire suppression systems, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical systems and electronics on all marine assets.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:- Performs preventative maintenance, routine tests, calibrations, and adjusts and minor repairs to the main propulsion and auxiliary engines, pumps, systems and marine equipment when appropriate
- Keeps maintenance and equipment history records for marine assets
- Reads, interprets and follows owner's manual and manufacturers maintenance recommendations
- Conducts field repairs on equipment as needed
- Procures parts, materials and equipment necessary to complete jobs
- Maintains inventory of PCCA owned tools and equipment
- Identifies and reports needed repairs to marine assets
- Directs and trains assigned crew in daily general preventative maintenance of equipment
- Assures work area, tools and equipment are cleaned upon completion of assignments
- Confers with supervisors in the performance of crew members. Makes recommendations and keeps maintenance supervisors informed of work issues
- Plans and projects needs and changes to meet anticipated conditions and performs other marine asset duties as required
- Adheres to PCCA policy and department procedures/Standing Orders and maintains good employee relations, promotes teamwork
- Promotes safety awareness and environmental consciousness and complies with all applicable safety and environmental procedures and regulations
- Drives vehicle as necessary to complete assigned tasks and works required hours/shifts necessary to fulfill facility objectives
- Subject to recall to duty at any time in the event of a critical incident and subject to random, post incident/accident, reasonable suspicion and rehabilitation monitoring drug and alcohol testing consistent with the PCCA Substance Use & Abuse Policy
- Works an average, eight hours per day, Monday through Friday, some weekends, holidays and evenings, may be called in for critical incidents
- CPR certified or ability to become CPR certified within the first year of employment
- Tier 2 status designation
The preferred candidate for this position should be an organized, thorough, and disciplined individual with a focus on maintaining optimal integrity in support of the PCCA. They must possess the following:
EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS- Valid driver’s license
- High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred; skilled with minor marine diesel engine repair and maintenance protocols
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) during course of employment
EXPERIENCE & JOB KNOWLEDGE- Experience in shipboard maintenance required
- Knowledge of 24- and 12-volt DC circuits and vessel electronics. Knowledge in Detroit 12 Cylinder 650HP Turbo-charged Diesel marine engines (V12-71TT1)
- Knowledge of Foam pump systems; preferred knowledge in Edwards model 300 foam pumps
- Prior marine technician experience desired; 3+ years’ experience as an engine technician in the marine industry; preferable onboard vessels
- Knowledge of Quincy Air Model 310 compressors, and Onan generators
- Knowledge in environmental requirements as applicable to marine pollution regulations, and precautions/considerations to be assured with regard to use of paint/adhesives in a marine environment
TECHNICAL SKILLS- Ability to ability to speak, read and write English, interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before employees
- Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written, to communicate in a clear and concise manner with other mechanics, technicians, supervisors and management team
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form and to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Hands-on, self-motivator with an excellent work-ethic approach, with strong technical knowledge and skill; proficiency with personal computers, including word processing and spreadsheet applications
- Effective collaboration, partnership and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Word and Excel, Outlook and other related applications
- Ability to understand, interpret, and apply all PCCA policies, promotes and adheres to the SEAPORT values, state/federal laws.
- Maintain good employee relations and encourages and fosters a helpful environment where teamwork prevails. Assists senior management and office staff where appropriate
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Ability to perform essential job functions, including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, typing and occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
- Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
- Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined, climb stairs, ramps, ladders and work stands. Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp/handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders
- Ability to work in a general office environment, and on a work site with exposure to adverse weather conditions, fumes and /or air particulates, working in high precarious places, risk of electrical shock and moving mechanical parts, moderate noise levels and working at heights, ability to wear personnel protective equipment, including hard hat, steel toed footwear, eye and hearing protection when performing work functions
- Ability to stand adverse weather conditions, occasional fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock
- Ability to operate mechanical and electrical equipment and light-weight highway vehicles and standard office equipment and to work the requisite hours to fulfill position objectives, including evenings and/or weekends, as needed
